Jasper Jae (they/them) is a nonbinary and neurodivergent artist working on Wangal Land, who primarily practices portraiture in gouache. Through the utilisation of dynamic lighting, abstract colour and geometric shapes, Jasper seeks to express the multidimensional nature of the soul.
Jasper’s work evokes an emotional balance of beauty and disquiet, using metaphysical, paranormal and extraterrestrial elements to explore themes of identity, self discovery and spiritual awakening from a personal lens. They attempt to capture the contrast of discomfort and euphoria experienced within these themes, journeys which all involve a continual ego death and redefinition of the self.
Jasper combines their love of portraiture with the anxiety of liminal spaces, to explore the fractured relationship between identity and perceived reality, evoking feelings of both loss and salvation. Their work is ultimately an exploration and deconstruction of conflicting dualities that formulate both individual identity and the world around us.
